Google to push for renewable energy
Google and General Electric are to work together to pressure the US government to increase the usage of renewable energy.
The companies want to see a modernisation of the national grid which would lead to renewable energies becoming cheaper than that generated by coal, co-founder of Google Larry Page announced.
General Electric has been one of the pioneers of renewable energy technologies, MarketWatch has reported, with wind turbines one of the methods the company uses to produce cleaner power for consumers.
Search engine giant Google has also become more interested in renewable energy, as it looks for more cost-effective ways to power its huge servers.
In a statement, the companies announced that the lobbying programme will include the "development of specific policy proposals, alliance building, advocacy, information programs and public relations"
Google has also submitted a patent for a water-based data centre which would use wave power to provide energy to the company's servers.
